Construction work has just commenced in Cambridge to convert an old police station into a boutique hotel.

Hobson House is a Grade II-listed building in St Andrews Street dating back to 1901 and which served as a police and fire station in Cambridge. Hobson House stands on the site of the former Spinning House, the house was founded by Mr Hobson in 1628 and served as a workhouse before being turned into a prison and a ‘house of correction’.

Hobson House is to become a 56-bedroom, all-suites boutique hotel and tea room operated by Rogue City Hotels.

Hobson House will retain many of the building’s historic features. The ornate entrance hall, the former Chief Constable's Office and original stained-glass windows are being restored. Parts of the building are to be demolished with new wings built.

Construction work is expected to complete autumn 2022.

Hobson House is located on the banks of the River Cam in the centre of Cambridge. It is around 45 minutes from central London.
