Latest Hotel and Venue News: starting in London and moving west and north:

art’otel London Hoxton, the second art’otel in the Capital is set to open in March. It will include 357 bedrooms and suites, destination bars and restaurants, an art gallery and events space. Leisure facilities will include an indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room, treatment rooms and a gym. It is located around 200m from Old Street Tube station.

Hyde London City is a new hotel opening in London this summer. The Grade II-listed building is located on the Old Bailey in the City of London, directly overlooking St Paul’s Cathedral. It will have 111 bedrooms, a Turkish restaurant and a cocktail bar.  It is set to mark the brand's British debut.

Twickenham Stadium Hotel, formerly the London Marriott Hotel Twickenham is set to be rebranded as the Radisson Red Twickenham. New operators will take over the hotel on 1st April followed by a refurbishment during which the hotel will remain open. The hotel has 156 bedrooms including six suites overlooking the rugby pitch.

Spring 2024 will see the introduction of new dining and events space at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London. It will feature a rooftop garden with views across East London, a café and a restaurant across two floors. Various spaces will be available for events throughout the year and will be available for private hire.

Developers are planning to convert a 1960’s office block near the centre of Bath into a 152 bedroom hotel. The building, Beazer House, described as ‘environmentally challenged’ could soon be demolished and replaced with a new six-storey, three-star hotel with 152 bedrooms plus a restaurant and bar. If planning permission is granted, development work could start this June with an anticipated opening date at the end of 2025.

ibis Styles Paignton is a new hotel just opened in the Devon resort. A seafront hotel, it has 121 bedrooms, a restaurant and bar, a fitness centre, a meeting room to seat up to six delegates plus a terrace.

Further north, the historic Batchwood Hall in St Albans is set for a total refurbishment and conversion into a hotel, with 14 bedrooms, a restaurant, bar and events space. A 2025 opening is anticipated if all goes to plan.

The Store Oxford is a new hotel scheduled to open this February in the centre of  Oxford. The Store will have 101 bedrooms, a restaurant, rooftop bar, spa and co-working space. It is located on the site of the former Boswells department store in the centre of Oxford.

The Pig Hotel group has acquired the Barnsley House hotel and the Boot pub in the Cotswolds village of Barnsley close to Cirencester. It will launch as The Pig and The Village Pub with 18 bedrooms this summer following a refurbishment.

The group is also set to launch The Pig on the Farm at the end of this year in Stratford on Avon. It will be located in a converted mid-16th century stone-built farmhouse in 50 acres of land five miles from Stratford. It will have 35 ensuite bedrooms and suites, a restaurant plus private lounges and dining rooms.

A new hotel is set to open at the Dallas Burston Polo Club in Warwickshire later this year. The hotel on the 200-acre site will have 40 boutique bedrooms plus a range of sports and events facilities, including four polo grounds, an equestrian arena, a gastropub and a 3,000-capacity Events Centre.

Cogs Restaurant & Bar with 100 covers is a new addition which has just opened at Hotel Indigo Coventry in Friargate, central Coventry.

11 Brindley Place is a 12-floor modern office block overlooking Brindley Place on the edge of Birmingham city centre, 10 minutes from New Street station. It offers a range of recently refurbished meeting facilities to suit a variety of layouts seating up to 14 delegates boardrooms style, 20 U- shape and 40 theatre style.

To Wolverhampton where JD Wetherspoon plan to add an additional 25 hotel rooms to the planned 71-bedroom extension at The Moon Under Water pub in Wolverhampton city centre. The property was formerly a Co-op store. We will monitor developments here with the greatest of interest.

Malmaison Manchester Deansgate opens on 1 February. It will include 70 bedrooms, a bar and grill, private dining and meeting rooms for up to 12 guests. It will also feature the group’s second Sora rooftop bar and restaurant. It overlooks Manchester Town Hall.

The Halyard at Ropewalks Liverpool opens next month. It is the first of IHG’s Vignette Collection hotels to open in the UK. The Halyard stands on the “footprint” of former 18th century rope-making warehouse in Liverpool’s Ropewalks district – and this reflects the style of the hotel. The hotel will have 133 bedrooms plus a 200-seater restaurant, a bar, private dining facilities and two small meeting rooms. 

The Inn Collection Group is set to launch The Ullswater Inn in early February in the Lake District overlooking Helvellyn. It is located on the site of the former Glenridding Hotel. The reopening follows a 12-month closure for a total refurbishment which has included an increase in the number of bedrooms from 36 to 57.

Over in the north east The Bailiffgate Hotel is a new hotel opening this summer in Alnwick, Northumberland. It is a modern 5-storey building adjoining a former Georgian schoolhouse. The hotel will have 48 bedrooms and suites plus a bar, restaurant and a private dining room.

Irish hotel brand The Address Collective is planning its UK debut with The Address Glasgow - opening in early 2024. The Address Glasgow is a six-storey hotel located in Renfield Street - with 95 bedrooms, a restaurant, bar, a first-floor meeting space with a fixed boardroom layout accommodating up to 14 people.  Facilities also include a wellness spa complete with a gym.

The Hoxton Edinburgh is a new hotel in Haymarket opening summer 2024. The hotel will be formed from 11 joined together Georgian townhouses on either side of the street. It will comprise 211 guest bedrooms, a restaurant plus a range of large events spaces and a gallery.

Dalata, the Ireland-based hotel group, has submitted plans to build a new Clayton Hotel Edinburgh in St Andrew’s Square. If approved the 4-star hotel will have 167 bedrooms, a restaurant and bar, a gym and two large meeting rooms.

We were planning to finish our news roundup with a closure rather than a new opening. However, The Cardiff Coal Exchange hotel which opened in 2017 had closed its doors in the middle of January, but now a new management team plan to reopen the hotel with 200 bedrooms on 8 March. All good news.
