Starting in London, Broadwick Soho is expected to finally open in November. It will have 57 bedrooms with bespoke furniture and individually selected artworks. It will feature a rooftop bar, a restaurant on the eighth floor, a ground-floor lounge and events space, details of which await publication. It is located in Broadwick Street
10th October sees the official opening of DoubleTree by Hilton Woking’s new Conference Centre – with eight modern meeting rooms, the largest accommodating up to 350 delegates. All rooms have been refurbished and equipped with modern lighting and AV, stylishly decorated with new carpets and equipped with tea and coffee stations. It is located in the centre of Woking, half-mile from Woking station.
Moving north, Ennismore has confirmed plans to open the second Mama Shelter branded hotel in the UK in Liverpool, following its launch in London’s Shoreditch. It will be located in the city centre at the George Henry Lee building, formerly John Lewis. Mama Shelter Liverpool will have 175 bedrooms, a rooftop restaurant and bar plus a Sports Bar, a karaoke room, a 10-pin bowling alley and co-working spaces. It is expected to open in 2025.
Staying in Liverpool, plans have been published to convert Liverpool's former magistrates court into a four star boutique hotel with a bar, restaurant and courtyard garden. The building, which dates back to about 1850 is located on Dale Street in the city centre. Plans envisage 91 bedrooms created alongside a new build element with 20 bedrooms plus a restaurant, bar, gym, sauna and garden. The former courtrooms would be converted into events space. Full planning permission and listed building consent has been submitted to Liverpool City Council – we will monitor progress.
Moving across to Manchester, Marriott Hotels have signed an agreement with Relentless Developments and Salboy Ltd to bring W Hotels to Manchester. It is planned to open in the city’s St Michael's development in Q1 2027. W Manchester, will have 162 bedrooms and suites, restaurant and bars plus events space. Meanwhile further north in Lancashire, plans are progressing to convert the historic Magistrates building in Ormskirk into a hotel with 23 luxury apartments - and with the old courtroom and cells converted into a restaurant and bar. Further details plus proposed opening date to follow.
Across the Pennines, the new Hyatt Hotel currently under construction next to Leeds station has just reached the ‘topping out’ stage. The 12 storey, 305 bedroomed hotel is expected to open in 2024.
Vine Hotels has announced plans to transform its central Sheffield Cutlers Hotel into an ‘all–suite’ hotel. The refurbished hotel would comprise 27 suites each with a lounge, one or two bedrooms and a private kitchen. If all goes to plan construction is expected to start by the end of the year followed by an estimated 12-month building programme.
In Scotland, Radisson Blu Glasgow has unveiled almost 250 completely renovated bedrooms as part of a £15 million refurbishment project which began in January. The hotel is situated in Argyle Street, a stone’s throw from Glasgow Central station.
Dalata Hotels have acquired a development site on St. Andrew's Square in central Edinburgh and are planning, subject to approval, a 153-bedroom Clayton-branded hotel with a bar, restaurant, gym and two meeting rooms. A mid-2026 opening is anticipated.
Finally we are excited at the news our close neighbour, the Voco St John’s Hotel Solihull, is up for sale – 201 bedroom hotel at a guide price of £25million. What does the future hold we wonder?
