Plans for a new hotel in Glasgow have been approved.

The new hotel will be a 16-storey building with 252 bedrooms on a site next to the St Columba Gaelic church on the corner of St Vincent Street and Pitt Street in central Glasgow. The hotel will replace two adjoining office blocks which were built in the mid-1980s.

The new hotel will be the first UK hotel for Austrian operator - Vienna House. It will include a restaurant and bar plus conference facilities.

Work is scheduled to start on site this autumn - coronavirus permitting - with the hotel’s opening scheduled for 2023.

Vienna House is a well-established hotel company if not well known in the UK. The group operate some 50 hotels in eight countries throughout Europe and Asia.

The Food Works is a new innovation centre for food and drink manufacturers which has just opened in Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset.

The Food Works has been developed to help local producers to collaborate, innovate, identify new markets and create jobs within the sector. To this end The Food Works has 12 business units and development kitchens, three meeting and conference rooms accommodating between 10 and 16 delegates each, a video conferencing room plus a cafe and business lounge.

The Food Works also offers companies hands-on food technical and business support and access to sector-based training.

The Food Works is located on the Junction 21 Enterprise Zone in Weston-super-Mare.

Junction21 Enterprise is a 72-hectare development designed to attract and develop new business opportunities in the West of England. It is located alongside the M5 at junction 21, 20 minutes south of Bristol and in close proximity to a deep-water port and an International Airport.

Plans have just been submitted to Birmingham City Council for an exciting major new mixed-use scheme on a five-acre site in Digbeth close to the city centre. The scheme will include a 133-bedroom hotel at the heart of a new cultural, commercial and residential neighbourhood.

The hotel will occupy a key location overlooking a proposed Skypark on Duddeston Viaduct and a new public park. It will form part of a major new £260 million regeneration scheme in Birmingham city centre.

A planning decision is expected by the autumn. If approved the developer is hoping to start work early next year.

Planning permission has been granted to convert the Grade II-listed Norfolk Plaza Hotel in Paddington, central London, into an 87 bedroom 4-star hotel, with a flexible multifunctional lounge concept.

Norfolk Plaza Hotel currently has 80 bedrooms. It is located in Norfolk Square, a closed front garden square surrounded by Grade II-listed Edwardian buildings. It lies within the Bayswater Conservation Area.

Norfolk Plaza Hotel was original formed from the conversion of three townhouses in Norfolk Square in the 1970’s.

Internally, the layout of the hotel will be redesigned to create modern, airy bedrooms with the reception area reworked to create a welcoming lobby with retail space and co-working space.

Work is scheduled to start on site in the autumn of 2020.

Plans for a new hotel in Swansea have just been approved. The project will see the transformation of a Grade II-listed Georgian townhouse on Swansea's Maritime Square into the Georgian Swansea Hotel.

The new hotel will sit in Swansea’s Maritime Conservation Area.

The Georgian townhouse, in Prospect Place, is part of a historic terrace in Swansea and is amongst the oldest properties in the city.

The ground floor of the townhouse is currently in use as a restaurant and bar. Rooms on the first, second and third floors which are in residential use, will be converted into stylish new hotel bedrooms featuring Georgian fireplaces, double showers, a roll-top bath and views across to Swansea Museum. The new hotel will also feature function space.

A 2020 opening date is anticipated for The Georgian Swansea Hotel.

Plans have been published to convert a vacant office block in the centre of Birmingham into an aparthotel and a boutique hostel.

St James' House is an eight-storey building in Horse Fair. The O2 Academy sits on the ground floor but the office space above has been vacant since 2003.

Plans would see an additional four storeys added to the building. Levels three to six would be the hostel, with the aparthotel located on levels seven through to 11. The plans would create 94 aparthotel rooms and 64 hostel rooms.

St James’s House is a short walk from Birmingham New Street Station.

Plans await the go-ahead from Birmingham City Council.
