Latest developments in the serviced apartment sector include a new development from Your Apartment in Bristol.
Your Apartment has opened a new aparthotel in Bristol. The company has converted Merchant House, former student accommodation in Clifton, into a 34 studio apartment block with co-working space.
Each apartment is equipped with a kitchenette, a ‘relaxation area’, a king-sized bed and bathroom with a wet room shower.
Apartments have superfast wi-fi, USB charging points, lap-top friendly workspaces and Smart TVs.
Your Apartments Clifton are available for short or long-term stays.
Your Apartments Clifton is located in Clifton Village High Street, around four miles from Bristol Temple Meads station.
Further north, in Preston Lancashire, plans have been approved to convert the Grade II-Listed former Unicorn Hotel pub on North Road in Preston into a front for a new 126-unit aparthotel development.
The Unicorn Hotel is to be converted with five first floor apartments created plus a communal area on the ground floor.
The remaining 121 units will be in a new three-to-five storey block at the rear of the Unicorn Hotel.
The target markets for the Unicorn aparthotel include guest university lecturers working at the University of Central Lancashire, a near neighbour, as well as business guests working in the area.
No planned opening dates have been published yet.

Spring opening planned for Bodmin Jail Hotel
Spring opening planned for Bodmin Jail Hotel
Bodmin Jail Hotel is scheduled to open late Spring 2021 following completion of a £50million restoration project which has converted the historic 18th century jail into a luxury hotel whilst retaining the buildings features and preserving its heritage.
Previous guests at Bodmin Jail include the who’s who of the Victorian criminal fraternity plus the Crown Jewels which were resident during the First World War.
Bodmin Jail Hotel is a 70-bedroom boutique hotel featuring the Chapel Restaurant and Bar plus the Jolly Hangman Tavern. Bedrooms at Bodmin Jail Hotel have been created by combining three jail cells complete with their original features.
Bodmin Jail Hotel has three meeting spaces, all fully equipped with AV and accommodating up to 14 people.
Bodmin Jail Hotel is located in Scarlett’s Well Road in Bodmin with good access to the M5 motorway at junction 21. Bodmin Parkway is the nearest mainline station with direct rail services to London, Bristol, Birmingham and the North of England

New Hotel planned in South Wales
Carmarthenshire County Council has just published plans to build a new 140-bedroom hotel on a coastline site adjacent to a Llanelli golf course.
The new hotel would boast views across Machynys Golf Club and Pendine Country Park. as well over the beaches of the Gower Peninsular in South Wales.
Part of the proposed site was formerly occupied by Machynys brickworks in the early part of the last century.
The proposed hotel would incorporate over 100,000 sq ft of floor space and would include a restaurant, bar and lounge as well as meeting, conference and function rooms to attract both the business market as well as boosting local tourism.
Carmarthenshire County Council is carrying out a 28-day statutory consultation on the proposal.

Second Harbour Hotel to open in Salcombe
A late spring opening is scheduled for the launch of Harbour Hotels group’s second hotel in Salcombe.
Harbour Beach Club & Spa with 50 bedrooms will join Salcombe Harbour Hotel and Spa in the South Devon resort.
The majority of the bedrooms and suites at Harbour Beach Club & Spa will have balconies overlooking the South Sands beach.
Harbour Beach Club & Spa will include a restaurant, a spa with an indoor pool, sauna and steam room, five treatment rooms plus an outdoor terrace and a beach bar.
Harbour Beach Club & Spa will be operating a shuttle service between the hotel and Salcombe Harbour Hotel and Spa.

Bike & Boot heading to The Peak District
Simon Rhatigan and Simon Kershaw opened their first Bike & Boot Hotel in Scarborough last summer with 65 bedrooms. They are now planning to open their second Bike & Boot Hotel in the Hope Valley in the Peak District’s National Park.
Plans for Bike & Boot’s second hotel have been approved and a March 2022 opening is planned.
Bike & Boot Scarborough has won various awards including the Best Hotel Interior Design of the Year at the Northern Design Awards 2020. Assuming the Peak District hotel follows a similar footprint, it will offer a range of bedroom sizes all equipped with the latest in-room technology as well as restaurant and bar facilities plus a Film Club which shows free movies three times daily. Bike & Boot Scarborough offers facilities for storing bikes, washing muddy boots, and maintaining bikes as well as an area where guests can wash and groom their dog.
Rhatigan and Kershaw have a further two sites in UK at various stages of the planning process.

Malmaison York opening shortly
A Spring 2021 opening is now planned for the new Malmaison York hotel
Malmaison York will occupy the former Aviva Insurance building in the centre of York. It will include 150 stylish bedrooms and suites. Chez Mal restaurant will be serving breakfast through to dinner with private dining also available. Chez Mal bar will be serving morning coffee, light lunches through to drinks in the evening.
Malmaison York will have four meeting rooms accommodating up to 120 delegates plus six pods – fully equipped working spaces for up to 6 people.
Leisure facilities at Malmaison York will include a spa and a gym.
Malmaison York is located in Rougier Street a short walk from York station and within easy reach of all York’s landmark buildings and sites.
