Another ‘Football’ Hotel planned in Manchester
Plans have been approved to establish a new 151-bedroom hotel in Manchester city centre – just off Piccadilly Gardens.
The new hotel is a planned joint venture between former Manchester United footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and hotel company Pestana.
Two buildings have been earmarked for the change. The first is 67 Piccadilly. This was originally built as a hotel in the mid-nineteenth century before undergoing several refurbishments and changes of use. This is now set to be demolished and replaced with an 11-storey hotel with 97 bedrooms.
Alongside is 69-75 Piccadilly. This building will be totally revamped with a nine-storey infill extension joining the old building to the new hotel creating an additional 54 bedrooms.
If everything goes to plan the new hotel should open in 2023.
Football and hotel ownership intermingle easily in Manchester. The new hotel will join Hotel Football in the shadow of the Old Trafford stadium and the Stock Exchange Hotel in the city centre both of which are owned by former footballers, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville.

End of the road for Ardoe House Hotel
The Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House Hotel and Spa, a four-star Victorian hotel is set to close.
The downturn in the local economy due to the collapse of the oil price and its knock-on effects combined with the fall-out from the Coronavirus pandemic has led the hotel to seek voluntary liquidation.
Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House Hotel and Spa is housed in a Scottish baronial style mansion in 18 acres of parkland. The hotel has 120 bedrooms with a restaurant and bars plus a spa. The hotel also has a range of meeting and events suites.
Unfortunately, the hospitality sector has been among the hardest hit by the pandemic and hence the imminent closure of the Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House Hotel and Spa.
News of the Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House Hotel and Spa closure comes on the back of a recently published report from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) which shows that more than a third of businesses in the accommodation and foodservice sectors fear they will not survive the next three months.

Hotel planned in Glasgow’s Merchant City
Planning permission has been granted to convert an historic A-listed building in Virginia Street in Glasgow’s Merchant City into a boutique hotel.
The building will become The Virginia Hotel. It will include 14 bedrooms on the upper floors with a restaurant and bar on the ground and basement levels. The building also features a courtyard to the rear.
The building dates back to the 1760’s when it was used as the headquarters for a tobacco and sugar merchant. It was then converted into a girls school. Most recently the building was the base for a local wholesaler but it has now been vacant for the last twenty years.
Details of the hotel operator and its likely opening date await publication.

New Boutique Hotel planned in Cornwall
A planning application has been submitted to Cornwall Council to redevelop a farm close to Rock in north Cornwall into a boutique hotel.
Trefresa Farm is a 114-acre farm which is set to be converted into a community hub with a boutique hotel, spa, restaurant and micro-distillery alongside the existing agricultural business.
The development will comprise 24 hotel rooms plus 22 lodges and two treehouses, integrated into areas of woodland.
