Plans to redevelop the Kensington Forum hotel have been approved by the Greater London Authority.

Kensington Forum Hotel, one of the largest hotels in London with 900plus bedrooms and a range of meeting and events suites, will now be redeveloped into a luxury hotel and serviced apartments complex.

The new development will include a variety of amenities including bars, restaurants, conference facilities and a 2,700 square-metre garden square. The project also includes public realm improvements to the area around Gloucester Road station.

A new landmark, world-class hotel in London is the aim of the development. Anticipated time scales for its development and completion await publication.

Plans for a new hotel in Birmingham have just been approved by Birmingham City Council.

The new development will be ion a site close to the city centre in Broad Street, Ryland Street and Grosvenor Street West. A 229 bedroom three-star hotel is planned which will share the site with a major apartment development.

Radisson Hotel Group has announced plans to open a new Radisson Blu Hotel in Sheffield.

Radisson Blu Hotel Sheffield will form part of Heart of the City II, a mixed-use commercial, leisure, retail and residential development in the city centre. It will be built in two blocks separated by a new courtyard. One block will be housed in the 19th century Palatine Chambers in Pinstone Street with the other, a new connecting building on the site of Barkers Pool House on Burgess Street.

Radisson Blu Sheffield will have 154 bedrooms, conference and events facilities, a restaurant and bar as well as a rooftop bar and restaurant with views of the Peace Gardens and Winter Gardens.

Radisson Blu Hotel, Sheffield is set to open in 2023, and will be the group’s first hotel in the city.

Radisson Blu Hotel, Sheffield is around a ten-minute walk from Sheffield station.

The new Coventry Telegraph Hotel is opening 18th November 2020 following a two-year-long, £15million transformation of the historic ex-premises of the Coventry Evening Telegraph newspaper.

The building’s mid-20th century features and artefacts have been retained and signature period furniture and art pieces have been acquired which will be displayed in the public areas.

Coventry Telegraph Hotel will have 88 bedrooms and will features a large bar, conservatory restaurant, conference suite and roof top bar overlooking Belgrade Square in the centre of Coventry, plus loft style penthouse suites on two levels.

Coventry Telegraph Hotel also features ‘Winter Garden’ – which is made up of 11 bedrooms overlooking a private, glazed indoor terrace only accessible from these rooms.

‘Editors’ will be the main events suite at Coventry Telegraph Hotel seating from 12 to 160 delegate. Two panelled boardrooms are available for private dining and meetings and there is a library of post war design and newspaper heritage.

Coventry Telegraph Hotel is Coventry’s first boutique hotel and is located in the centre of the city. It is opening just prior to Coventry’s reign as the UK City of Culture throughout 2021.

Coventry Telegraph Hotel will be operated by Bespoke Hotels group.

Hotel Booking Agents Association (HBAA) is spearheading a campaign after a new survey revealed misperceptions of current government rules to kick-start the meetings and events sector.

‘Meet Safe, Meet Smart 30’ has been created after new HBAA research revealed there is confusion over government guidance regarding the number of delegates allowed to attend meetings in England – currently 30 – which is preventing planners from having the confidence to book and organise permitted meetings.

As well as building confidence, the HBAA’s ‘Meet Safe, Meet Smart 30’ campaign will concentrate on communicating and supporting government regulations as well as highlighting the level of safety and flexibility of contractual terms and conditions at all venues involved.

The ‘Meet Safe, Meet Smart 30’ campaign is a ‘free to participate’ campaign for both the venues and the agencies that promote them. The campaign aims to provide facts, drive confidence as well as showcasing venues which offers delegates tangible assurances.

Juliet Price, Consultant Executive Director HBAA, said: “It is clear from our survey that there is a long way to go in terms of customers understanding and appreciating how compliant the vast majority venues really are when it comes to Covid-19 protocols and also that the current government guidance supports off-site meetings for up to 30 people.”

“There are many reasons why meeting in person is absolutely essential, from productivity to creativity, to positive mental health. However, we completely appreciate and acknowledge that that we must follow the government guidelines which are subject to rapid change, aligned to infection rates.”
