Carbon-zero hotel planned in York
Plans have been submitted to build a new zero carbon hotel in York.
The proposed new hotel, with 99 bedrooms, would be sited on the Mill House car park site, off North Street in the centre of York. It would be the first hotel in the country to generate net zero carbon emissions and would also showcase sustainable features such as solar PV and a biodiverse green wall.
No onsite food or beverage facilities are planned at the new hotel although there is no shortage of hospitality options in the immediate vicinity. The new hotel would have no car parking spaces either, further enhancing its carbon reduction emission credentials. It would also reflect York's aspiration to become the UK's first car-free city centre.
A planning application for the proposed new hotel has been submitted.

Dixie Dean Hotel opens in Liverpool
Signature Living has just opened the new Dixie Dean Hotel in Liverpool city centre – a hotel named after and dedicated to the legendary Everton FC footballer.
Dixie Dean Hotel is housed in the Grade II-listed, former Jerome and Carlisle building and is opposite its sister hotel, The Shankly, named after Liverpool FC's former manager.
Dixie Dean Hotel has 42 bedrooms including six ‘Cave’ rooms in the basement. Accommodation ranges from double rooms to bedrooms which can accommodate up to eight guests. All bedrooms feature a unique themed décor and all are equipped with a whirlpool baths or a copper tub, plus the usual hotel room amenities.
Signature Living has also launched the Pillow Club at the hotel, which provides a live DJ feed to the bedrooms.
The 160-cover ‘No 9’ is the restaurant and bar at the Dixie Dean Hotel, named after Dean's shirt number.
Dixie Dean hotel is located in Victoria Street, a short walk from Liverpool Lime Street station.

Tytherington Club Hotel opens in Macclesfield
The new Tytherington Club Hotel has just opened in Macclesfield, in the grounds of Tytherington Golf and Country Club.

Great Scotland Yard Hotel has just launched a Georgian-fronted townhouse next door to its main five-star, Grade II-listed, Hyatt-operated hotel in central London.

Ibis Styles Birmingham expanding
Plans to extend the Ibis Styles Birmingham Hagley Road Hotel have been approved.
A new four-storey extension is planned which would add a further 35 bedrooms to the Ibis Styles Hotel
Ibis Styles Birmingham Hagley Road currently has 62 bedrooms and offers a continental buffet-style breakfast. It features a purpose-built meeting room for up to 400 delegates.

New Marriott planned in Edinburgh
Plans have been submitted to convert a Debenhams store in Princes Street in the centre of Edinburgh into a city centre hub which would include a new hotel alongside new restaurants and shops.
The £50 million planned redevelopment of the site would feature a new four-star Marriott Tribute - the first Tribute branded hotel in Scotland. The hotel would include hospitality, leisure facilities and flexible events space.
The Marriott Tribute would feature a rooftop bar boasting some of the best views in Edinburgh across to Princes Street Gardens and Edinburgh Castle.
If the planning application is approved it is hoped development work can begin within a year.
