The renovation of the Crowne Plaza London Kingston has included an extension of the reception area creating an open plan lobby. The 360 Restaurant & Bar has re-opened with a new International Tapas concept. All 121 bedrooms have been renovated with contemporary new designs.
Crowne Plaza London Kingston has five meeting rooms accommodating groups from 10 up to 250 delegates. These have been re-designed and renovated to include the latest AV and meeting technology.

Courtyard by Marriott Keele University ‘tops out’
Courtyard by Marriott at Keele University’s Science and Innovation Park in Staffordshire has just marked its ‘topping out’. An autumn 2020 opening is planned for the new hotel.
Courtyard by Marriott at Keele University will have 150 bedrooms plus meeting rooms, a fitness suite, a restaurant and a bar. It will also include 180 car parking spaces.
Courtyard by Marriott at Keele University will be located near to the main entrance to campus on the Science and Innovation Park and adjacent to the new Smart Innovation Hub which houses the Business School and business incubator units.

New Hotel planned in Coventry
Plans have been unveiled for a new 150-bedroom hotel at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. The new hotel – a Hampton by Hilton – would sit alongside the existing DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel with its 121 bedrooms at the Ricoh Arena.
The new Hampton by Hilton would provide additional accommodation in support of the 32,600-capacity stadium located alongside plus the 20,000 square metres of events space at the Ricoh Arena which includes an exhibition hall, casino and meeting rooms.
A formal application has been submitted to Coventry city council. If plans are approved construction work on the new hotel could begin this summer with a possible completion by the fourth quarter of 2021.

Lowry Hotel signs up to recycling scheme
The five-star Lowry Hotel in Manchester has just signed up to a toiletry recycling scheme in its commitment to sustainability.
It is estimated that around 50,000 half-used hotel soaps are sent to landfills annually. The Lowry Hotel is working with Clean the World, a global enterprise dedicated to WASH (water, sanitisation and hygiene) and sustainability. They recycle discarded soap bars and empty toiletry bottles from hotel rooms and distributes them to those in need.
Half-used soaps from The Lowry Hotel will be shipped to a recycling centre in Amsterdam where it will be sanitised and ground into soap “noodles” before being pressed and cut into brand new 80g bars. The new soaps will then be distributed to charities around the world.
Miniature toiletries are one of the biggest causes of waste in the hospitality industry, with hundreds of soaps and bottles a day being thrown away half-used. The scheme will help stop these toiletries from ending up in landfill.
Other initiatives being pioneered by the Lowry Hotel include using sustainably sourced produce in its restaurant and offering a ‘eco turndown’ option for gusts to reduce its carbon footprint.
The Lowry Hotel is located on the banks of the River Irwell in Salford around a twenty minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly station.

Launch of Cult Hotels planned
The co-founder of the Cotswolds’ hotel and restaurant portfolio, The Lucky Onion, is planning to launch a new hotel brand - Cult Hotels - this spring with its first property: The George in Cheltenham, due to open officially in April 2020.
The George in Cheltenham comprises five refurbished Grade-II listed Regency townhouses with 46 bedrooms. The design of the hotel will reflect the local area and will be ‘accessible, approachable and cool’. Cult Hotels will feature an automatic check-in and post-box key return as well as offering a Pantry for guests to use throughout their stay.
Future plans would see the Cult Hotels concept rolled out in popular cities within the UK and beyond over the next few years.

New National Poetry Centre planned in Leeds
Plans to develop a new National Poetry Centre in Leeds have been unveiled by poet laureate, Simon Armitage.
The National Poetry Centre would include an extensive poetry collection with research facilities, rehearsal and performance spaces and a café. It would also offer events spaces for literary events and prizes plus accommodation for visiting writers from across the UK and worldwide.
The new National Poetry Centre would be developed by Leeds City Council and the University of Leeds amongst others.
